The Code of Hyperborea

Acrylic on canvas · 100 × 100 cm

The Code of Hyperborea is an acrylic painting with a square, contemplative frame, immersed in a cool range of blues, navy and violet. It carries the viewer to mythical Hyperborea, the land «beyond the north wind», where, according to ancient legend, light, harmony and the nearness of the gods once reigned.

The strongest accent of the composition is a great eye suspended against the northern lights. In place of a pupil it hides a luminous temple with a glowing entrance. This is a gaze turned inward, toward the inner sanctuary that each of us carries within. From the eye a streak of light flows down like a tear. It crosses the space of the painting and touches the surface of the ice, as if the knowledge of the inner world wished to materialise in the outer one.

On the right stands a hooded, faceless figure in an icy, flowing robe, with a halo above its head. It holds a crystal sceptre ending in concentric circles. This is a guardian or guide, a symbol of knowledge passed on without words. Its robe blends into the icy landscape, as if it were part of it.

The whole is bound by a delicate, golden net of lines: spirals, circles, hexagonal forms resembling snow crystals, and points connected like constellations. This is the titular «code» — a hidden record of the order that links sky, water, light and consciousness. The golden signs are subtle, almost embroidered on the surface of the canvas, and lend the painting a dimension of sacred geometry.

In the depths, on the frozen surface, rises a bright temple-city, a reflection of the temple within the eye, and beneath it the ice cracks. A fissure in the shape of the letter X reveals dark, deep water. This is a moment of passage and transformation: old shells break to uncover what lies beneath. At the bottom, on the right, sharp crystals of ice grow, and on the left, within a circle, an icy flower blooms.

The Code of Hyperborea invites you to silence, to pause and to read your own meaning. It is a painting about the memory of places that are on no map, and about the light that waits within us.
